Telefónica O2 - Changing lives
There are more than 5 million*, 5 to 14 year olds, working across Latin America. In many of these countries, a child is more likely to be forced into work in order to contribute to their family income, than complete a basic education.
At Telefónica O2, we believe that business has a responsibility to make a positive difference. We embrace this role through our commitment to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals aiming to improve the quality of life for young people, across the globe, by 2015.
Through Telefónica's Proniño scholarship programme, we are taking action in 13 countries to help eradicate child labour, and get children into schools.
This short, seven minute film, which showcases just one example of what Proniño can do. Shot in Ecuador, with children who are actually benefiting from the programme, it demonstrates just what can be achieved when business and communities work together.

Telefónica O2 - See what we can do to protect our children
Child safety continues to be one of our top priorities. We are commited to this work and will continue to alert parents and their children to the potential dangers of mobile use and the safety mechanisms that can be put in place.
O2 has partnered with Childnet International [external link], a leading organisation in child internet safety and the Personal Finance Education Group (pfeg) to produce a short film on mobiles and child protection.
The film focuses on the dilemma many parents face, balancing parental preferences against children’s needs. What are the concerns of parents? What is O2 doing? Where can I get help and advice?.
